Crazy About Ramiele Malubay
Numerous Filipino and Filipino-Americans are going insane over Ramiele Malubay's entry into American Idol's Top 24. I think she has got more in her vocally to do better than Jasmine Trias and Camille Velasco, but she does have tough competition ahead considering there are a handful of contestants who are hungrier and even more well-equipped this time around.
The nice thing too about having a Filipino on a global stage like American Idol is that they get to foreground local artists who deserve a wider audience. She lists down Regine Velasquez and Lani Misalucha as favorite artists alongside Aretha Franklin, and they deserve that attention and more.
For what it's worth, let's gather all the troops and vote for Ramiele Malubay on American Idol!

She reminds me of Melinda Doolittle in that she knows how to craft a song and has the confidence to restrain her big voice until the tune calls for it. She is not on the same level as Melinda (Ms. Doolittle had several years experience as a backup singer compared to Ramiele's experience in karaoke boxes) but Ramiele has the advantage of being so darn cute.
