Hollywood Auditions: Josiah Leming

Singing "Grace Kelly," the quintessential Mika song:

Singing "Stand By Me":

I don't get why they like him. He does a lot with songs but he tries so hard to make it his own, he loses the songs in the process. It felt like that with Grace Kelly. I wonder how he'd do if he did make it and the band can't get what he wants to do with the song.

I think you should listen to some of his original material. This is a very talented talented young man.

I'm sorry if I'm too mainstream for you. I didn't know that highbrow assholes like you would be reading things about American Idol and be dissing pop music even if the person you're defending was singing Mika's Grace Kelly.

i didn't say he wasn't talented, i just said he exerts a lot of effort to make a song he sings sound too much like his that he ruins it (like what he did to stand by me). sometimes you just have to go with some of the original choices the song was intended for so as not to lose out on those beats, melodies, rhythmic patterns and phrasings that rekindle a certain aura or meaning.
